Streetscaping and more parking for William Street

This week Rockhampton Regional Council have started some beautification works in the CBD along William Street, between East Street and Bolsover Street.

Parks, Sport and Public Spaces Councillor Cherie Rutherford said she is looking forward to seeing the improvements to William Street.

“The streetscaping will involve reconstructing the centre medians as well as refreshing the landscaping,” Cr Rutherford said.

“This is one of our main streets within the CBD so it will be nice for it to have some TLC.

“We will be adding in some beautiful trees that will provide a lovely, leafy canopy.

“This will provide shade and keep the community cool in the hotter months while also ensuring visibility is not impacted for drivers and pedestrians.”

Infrasructure Councillor Ellen Smith said that by simplifying the gardens and replacing them with trees means more parking for the area.

“As part of the project we will be adding four parking spaces which will no doubt be a welcome addition to this popular precinct,” Cr Smith said.

“During the works there will be some impacts to parking however our crews will endeavour to keep both lanes open while the upgrades are being undertaken.”

This project is a continuation of similar projects in the CBD in recent years including tree planting in Denham Street and the roundabout at Derby and East Street.
