Strike Force Raptor investigators have charged a man over alleged speeding offences after videos of the incidents were uploaded to social media.
Between 4.50pm and 6.40pm on Saturday 4 January 2020, a white Mercedes was travelling eastbound on the M5 motorway between King Georges Road and Bexley Road.
The male driver allegedly accelerated to a speed of 155km/h in a signposted 80km/h roadwork zone.
In a second incident, about 2.15pm on Sunday 5 January 2020, a white Mercedes was seen bypassing traffic on the M5 near Heathcote Road, while road closures were in place during a bushfire.
The male driver allegedly accelerated to a speed of 189km/h in a 100km/h zone near The River Road exit at Revesby.
In a third incident on Wednesday 18 March 2020, the male driver of a silver Mercedes travelling east on Henry Lawson Drive near Hammondville, allegedly accelerated to a speed of 211km/h in a 100km/h zone.
Following extensive inquiries, officers from the Criminal Groups Squad’s Strike Force Raptor arrested a 36-year-old man at a car dealership in Moorebank about 10am yesterday (Thursday 19 March 2020).
He was taken to Liverpool Police Station and charged with three counts of drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous and Class A motor vehicle exceed speed over 45 km/h (estimated). His licence was also suspended.
Police will allege in court that the man was the driver of the vehicles travelling above the signposted speed limit on three occasions between January and March 2020.
It will be further alleged that videos of the incidents were uploaded to social media.
The man, who is a car salesman, was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Liverpool Local Court on Wednesday 8 April 2020.
