Strike Force Trident Operations

Strike Force Trident have arrested 3 youths in relation to multiple property offences across the greater Darwin region earlier this week.

Around 7pm on 3 October 2023, a grey Mazda 3 hatchback was stolen from Mauna Loa Street, Darwin. A short time later, the occupants of the vehicle were observed stealing fuel from a location in Truck City.

Throughout the remainder of the night and into the morning of the 4 October 2023, the offenders have stolen a white Toyota Hilux from Winnellie and the group have allegedly attempted to unlawfully enter and cause damage to multiple businesses across the Darwin area.

The stolen Mazda was the located abandoned in Karama.

At 11am, the offenders have attended an address on Mahogany Court, Karama and caused a large disturbance with known occupants. One of the offenders allegedly threatened an occupant with a knife while the remaining caused significant damage to the premises before fleeing the scene.

Strike Force Trident and general duties deployed to area and began covertly following the stolen Hilux. A short time later the vehicle was recovered and a number of offenders were arrested without incident.

A 14-year-old male was charged with:

  • 1 x Driving, using/riding motor vehicle without consent
  • 1 x Attempt burglary – building
  • 2 x Damage to property
  • 1 x Theft
  • 1 x Trespass on protected premises

A 12-year-old male was charged with:

  • 1 x Driving, using/riding motor vehicle without consent
  • 1 x Damage to property
  • 1 x Possess carry/use controlled weapon
  • 1 x Armed with offensive weapon
  • 1 x Theft
  • 1 x Not stop after crash

Another 12-year-old male was charged with:

  • 2 x Driving, using/riding motor vehicle without consent
  • 4 x Damage to property
  • 2 x Recklessly endanger serious harm
  • 1 x Armed with offensive weapon
  • 1 x Theft
  • 1 x Not stop after crash
  • 1 x Drive a motor vehicle while unlicensed
  • 1 x Attempt burglary – building
  • 1 x Burglary – building

All were remanded to appear in court today.

Detective Senior Sergeant Dale Motter-Barnard said “Investigations into these incidents remain ongoing and Strike Force Trident are expecting further arrests and further charges to be laid.
