A new Mining Pathways program is ensuring Victoria has a pipeline of job ready workers as our minerals sector expands.
In partnership with SuniTAFE and the Minerals Council of Australia, Resources Victoria has developed the Mining Pathways program to connect regional Victorians with the skills and knowledge needed to work at one of the state’s mines.
The Mining Pathways program will be delivered at SuniTAFE’s Swan Hill and Mildura campuses, and online.
Victoria has world-class mineral sand deposits containing titanium, zirconium and rare earth elements, with mines approved to operate near Swan Hill and Minyip in the coming years.
According to Victoria’s Critical Minerals Roadmap, mining related activity in region could support up to 7,000 additional jobs in the coming decades.
The state’s gold sector remains strong, underpinned by mines at Fosterville, Ballarat, Stawell and Costerfield, and record-high gold prices. Across the Wimmera and Mallee, heavy mineral sands will be developed in the coming years.
Established in consultation with industry and community stakeholders, the Mining Pathways program will allow young people to develop a career close to home, strengthening regional communities and economies, while maximising the benefits of the state’s mineral resources.
Mines throughout Central Victoria already make large contributions local employment and the Mining Pathways program is expected to help deliver similar employment outcomes in the Wimmera and Mallee, where future mines are expected to operate.
