Stronger families, stronger communities: national families Week 2021

Families Australia

Australian communities will celebrate the importance of families in locally organised events around the country to mark National Families Week, 15 to 21 May 2021. Over 50,000 people are registered to take part.

‘The challenges of the past year have underlined the fundamental importance of families to society, communities and to us as individuals. Whatever form they take and in all their marvellous diversity, families need nurturing, respect and support. National Families Week is a great time to reflect on and take action to further strengthen our families.’ said Dr Brian Babington Families Australia’s Chief Executive Officer.

The aim of National Families Week 2021 is to celebrate the vital role that families play in Australian society. The enduring theme is ‘Stronger families, stronger communities’.

National Families Week is supported and promoted by Champions – prominent Australians who are supporters of families and family wellbeing.

National Families Week coincides with the United Nations International Day of Families on 15 May, the day observed by the United Nations to mark the importance placed on families as the most fundamental units of society, and to show the international community’s concern for family issues in many parts of the world.

Families Australia is a national, member-based, not-for-profit organisation that works to promote the needs and interests of families, especially those experiencing disadvantage.

National Families Week is supported by the Australian Government Department of Social Services.
