Northern Territory Police along with the Fire and Rescue Service are investigating after a structure fire in Katherine yesterday.
At around 3pm, reports were received of a house fire on Jukes Crescent. NT Fire and Rescue Service extinguished the fire, which had engulfed the entire property. The house was unoccupied at the time.
Investigations are continuing into the source of the fire.
Superintendent Peter Malley said, “It is incredibly lucky no one was inside the residence at the time of the blaze. Investigations into this incident are ongoing. NT Police, Fire and Emergency Services would like to remind the public to ensure smoke detectors are properly maintained and in working order. Any flammable material should be stored in approved containers and preparations taken to reduce fire hazards around the home.”
