Students feel supported, have good relationships

Members,

About 95 per cent of Tasmanian students enjoy good relationships and feel supported by their teachers, according to the Department for Education, Children and Young People’s latest key data set.

Minister for Education, Children and Youth, Roger Jaensch, released the Key Data Set today.

“Student wellbeing is a priority for the Rockliff Liberal Government and this result is a testament to Tasmania’s hardworking school staff,” Minister Jaensch said.

Highlights from this year’s data include:

  • Overall funding provided to schools continues to increase year on year.
  • The number of children in out-of-home care decreased from an average of 1,086.4 during 2020-21 to 1,049.4 during 2021-22 and has further decreased to 1,002.0 during the quarter ending March 2023.
  • Contacts to the Advice and Referral Line increased from 14,111 during 2020-21 to 15,039 during 2021-22, reflecting increased confidence in the service and increased awareness of safeguarding practices.

“Our Government is taking action to improve transparency and that is why these high-value data sets will now be made available via an online portal on the Department’s website,” Minister Jaensch said.

“As part of this new approach, there will be more flexibility of reporting on selected data sets such as reporting attendance and suspension data.

“In line with our commitment to improve community access to data, additional data sets have also been incorporated into the data release.”

There are new reporting indicators for:

  • Progressive Achievement Test data at the system and year level;
  • Kindergarten Development Check;
  • Services for Children and Families including Child Safety Services; and
  • Services for Youth Justice.
