Eligible City of Mount Gambier residents can once again access subsidised cat desexing and microchipping through a second round of funding aimed at supporting responsible pet ownership and improving animal welfare outcomes across the community.
Following high demand for the first round, City of Mount Gambier has partnered directly with local veterinary clinics to deliver an additional round, providing affordable access to desexing and microchipping services for eligible cat owners.
City of Mount Gambier General Manager Corporate and Regulatory Services Jane Fetherstonhaugh said the strong response to the first program highlighted the need for continued support.
“The first round was extremely well received by the community, with all available places fully allocated,” Mrs Fetherstonhaugh said.
“Council recognises the significant benefits the program delivered for residents, animal welfare and responsible pet ownership and is committed to finding a way to continue offering this important support.”
Eligibility to participate is limited to vulnerable or disadvantaged households, pension, concession and veteran card holders, residents experiencing financial hardship, and people who have taken responsibility for a stray or semi-owned cat. A maximum of three cats per household applies.
Eligible residents can access the following subsidised rates:
- Female cat desexing: $50
- Male cat desexing: $25
- Microchipping: Free
Council previously partnered with National Desexing Network (NDN) to coordinate vouchers through a subsidy program. Unfortunately, NDN has now ceased its programs in full, no further NDN vouchers will be issued.
Due to legislated privacy requirements, NDN is unable to provide details of residents who had registered for the waitlist. As a result, those residents who were on the existing waitlist will need to re-apply for the new program.
How to apply
