The McGowan Government has today announced the successful recipients of the Wildlife Heroes Wildlife Rehabilitation and Emergency Response Grants 2020.
The one-year grant will see 38 licensed wildlife rehabilitators share in $214,000 to provide care for sick and injured native wildlife, with the aim of releasing them back into the wild.
Recipients will be able to use funds for relevant items, such as to purchase specialist equipment, animal food, first aid supplies, veterinary support, reference materials and the development and implementation of training courses.
A total of $150,000 was initially available through the program, made up of $100,000 from State Government funds and $50,000 from the Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife’s Wildlife Heroes project.
The State Government increased the funds available to $214,000, funding all applicants who met the criteria for a grant.
Grants will be distributed as follows:
- Groups with more than 20 volunteers will be allocated up to $10,000
- Groups of between two and 20 volunteers will be allocated up to $2500
- A number of individual wildlife rehabilitators have also been funded
