Sunshine Saver delivers energy savings for Esperance locals

  • New Sunshine Saver product enabled by Horizon Power’s investment in the Shark Lake Renewable Hub
  • Five-hundred eligible Esperance customers expected to save up to $186 annually on electricity bills

The Cook Government, through Horizon Power, today launched its Sunshine Saver product in Esperance.

Available for up to 500 eligible customers, the product shares the benefits and savings of renewable energy with those who were previously unable to access rooftop solar.

The product has been designed to help rental households with limited financial ability or experiencing financial hardship to invest in renewables.

Once subscribed, customers will pay $1 per day and receive five units of energy credited to their account daily, regardless of usage.

This equates to an average 11 per cent reduction in energy bills or $186 annually.

Households can save even more by shifting evening energy use to daytime and receive a 10 per cent discount off energy used between 6am and 6pm.

The product aligns with the Cook Government’s Distributed Energy Resources Roadmap, which is a five-year plan to guide the integration of the growing number of solar panels, battery storage systems, and electric vehicles.

Sunshine Saver is being rolled out in Esperance initially, with additional towns to be added as renewable projects are commissioned.

Customers are able to check their eligibility and express their interest to apply via https://horizonpower.com.au/SunshineSaver

As stated by Energy Minister Bill Johnston:

“This is an important product that helps customers who are unable to access the benefits of solar to make genuine savings on their energy bills from renewable energy sources.

“We recognise there are barriers to accessing renewable energy and not all customers are in a position to purchase solar panels or new electric vehicles.

“Sunshine Saver demonstrates the Cook Government is committed to ensuring all Western Australians can benefit from the green energy transition.”
