Support for Tasmanian hospitality venues on menu

Nic Street, Minister for Hospitality and Events

Tasmanian Liberal Government’s $750,000 Revitalising Local Hospitality Venues Grant Program will open this Thursday, September 1, as part of our plan to strengthen our world-class hospitality sector.

The Program will grant $5,000 to up to 150 eligible hospitality businesses to support them to deliver projects or purchase equipment that will build capacity, continue to support the COVID-19 recovery, or assist to improve productivity.

Recent visitor data shows Tasmania had its strongest June quarter on record, with nearly 300,000 visitors to the State in April, May and June.

Reports from the sector are that forward bookings for the upcoming summer season look strong and indicate that a bumper summer season could be on the cards.

The hospitality sector contributed more than $720 million to the Tasmanian economy last year and we are confident that this will continue to grow.

This new grant program will inject much needed funds into the sector and allow business owners to prepare for another busy summer season.

The hospitality sector is the backbone of both our tourism industry and our local way of life and the Tasmanian Liberal Government has always been a strong supporter of this vital sector.

I would like to thank the Tasmanian Hospitality Association for their support in developing this tailored grant program. Their industry knowledge is second to none and essential to ensuring Government support targets areas most in need.

The Revitalising Hospitality Venues Grant Program is the latest support package this Government is providing to ensure the industry continues to recover and returns to the incredibly strong position it had pre-COVID-19.
