Support for Tasmanian live performance extended for summer

Elise Archer, Minister for the Arts

Our Government is a strong supporter of live performance in Tasmania and recognises that continued support is needed to ensure confidence in our cultural and creative industries in the face of any ongoing challenges of COVID-19.

As we look towards the warmer months and the summer festival season, the $2 million Live Performance Support Program will be extended to cover eligible performances and events through to the end of February 2023.

Administered by Arts Tasmania, the program allows the Government to share some of the risk of potential lost ticket sales if performances need to be cancelled or significantly modified due to changes to the Public Health Act 1997 relating to COVID-19.

The Program has been in place since March 2021 as part of our Government’s comprehensive package of financial support for the arts, screen and cultural sector in response to COVID-19, totalling almost $13 million in new and ongoing support measures since March 2020

Applications close on 31 January 2023, with activities occurring on or before 28 February 2023 eligible to be considered for in-principle support. Applications must be submitted at least 25 business days prior to a scheduled performance.

Tasmanian artists and arts organisations responsible for the box office risk on performances or events in the eligible period can apply for a guarantee ranging from $10,000 to $100,000.

To date, the Tasmanian Government has provided in-principle support to 42 productions across Tasmania – with nine productions and events needing to lodge claims for financial support.
