The ACT Government has announced the latest recipients of the Disability Inclusion Grants Program, awarding a total of more than $236,000 to 18 local organisations to increase opportunities for people with disability to participate in a broad range of community and social activities and groups.
The program supports innovative community-driven initiatives that promote inclusion, respect, and wellbeing – allowing everyone the opportunity to get involved.
Minister for Disability, Carers and Community Services Suzanne Orr said the grants are a vital way to bring the community together and eliminate social barriers for people living with disabilities, whether that be through infrastructure and amenity upgrades, improving education and resources, or making accessible changes to existing programs.
“This year’s recipients showcase the importance of supporting a more inclusive and accessible Canberra with opportunities for everyone to get involved in the community,” Minister Orr said.
“These organisations remind us of the ways we need to be bringing inclusivity and accessibility to the forefront our decision-making, helping everyone feel welcome with the knowledge they can participate in local activities.”
“Thank you to everyone who applied and to all of the wonderful organisations that continue to provide and improve opportunities for people with disabilities in our community.”
