Sydney Harbour Bridge fatal crash, NSW

A woman has died following a head-on crash on the Sydney Harbour Bridge this morning.

Just before 7.15am (Thursday 27 August 2020), emergency services were called to the Sydney Harbour Bridge, after reports a Mitsubishi Mirage travelling north and a BMW travelling south collided.

The female driver of the Mitsubishi died at the scene.

Her two passengers – both men believed to be aged in their 30s – were treated for head injuries. They have both been taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. One is reported to be in a serious condition.

The driver of the BMW – a woman believed to be aged in her 40s – remains trapped and Police Rescue are working to release her.

Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command attended, while the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit will commence an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The bridge remains closed in both directions and motorists are advised to avoid non-essential travel.
