TAFE Lecturers Accept State Government Wage Offer

  • The State School Teachers’ Union of Western Australia (SSTUWA) accepts a replacement three-year industrial agreement for TAFE lecturers and leaders
  • Cook Labor Government has secured negotiated outcomes for more than 32,000 public sector workers

More than 2,900 Western Australian TAFE lecturers and leaders have accepted a salary offer from the State Government as part of negotiations for a replacement industrial agreement.

In addition to a 12.0 per cent salary increase over three years from 15December 2023, the agreement introduces additional measures to support workload management and workforce retention including:

  • introduction of a new Grade 9 TAFE lecturer classification;
  • changes and uplift to the Country Incentives Allowance;
  • a doubling of the number of Advanced Industry Lecturer positions to 100 FTE across all five TAFE colleges; and
  • funding to support TAFE lecturers wishing to complete a teaching qualification or maintain their industry certification, licences or tickets.

State School Teachers’ Union of Western Australia advises that the ballot returned a result of 89 percent in support of the offer.

The Cook Labor Government has now secured negotiated outcomes for over 32,000 public sector workers under the Public Sector Wages Policy Statement 2023 – including WA teachers, TAFE lecturers, VenuesWest employees, and transit officers.

As stated by Industrial Relations Minister Simone McGurk:

“This is a great result for the 2,900 TAFE lecturers and leaders around our State, and I thank the State School Teachers’ Union for working with us to negotiate this outcome.

“This agreement will deliver meaningful improvements to TAFE lecturers, which in turn, will benefit vocational students and the broader community.

“We continue to engage with unions in good faith to settle negotiations for other public sector occupational groups.”
