TAFEs welcome the appointment of National Skills Commissioner

TAFE Directors Australia (TDA) today welcomed the appointment of Mr Adam Boyton as National Skills Commissioner.

Mr Boyton was appointed Interim National Skills Commissioner last October to oversee the early design work around the new body, leading up to its formation.

TDA Chief Executive Officer Craig Robertson said the TAFE sector looks forward to working with Mr Boyton on the important work of identifying and addressing Australia’s future skills needs.

“The forecasting of future skills is vital if we are to ensure the pipeline of talent needed for industry and to prepare people for a lifetime of fulfilling career opportunities.

“The TAFE sector has a proud record in providing high quality education and training for generations of Australians and will continue to be at the forefront of skills development.

“We look forward to working with Mr Boyton and the National Skills Commission on key elements of the skills reform, including on benchmark costs of qualifications,” Mr Robertson said.

As Australia’s workforce responds to the crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic, it become even more important that there is the opportunity for re-skilling and upskilling for many roles that have fundamentally changed.

TAFEs around Australia have demonstrated the capability and the trust of communities to responsibly and effectively work with governments to deliver skills training at this most important time.

TAFE Directors Australia is the peak national body representing 28 TAFE institutes, including six dual sector universities with TAFE divisions.
