Talents showcased at 2023 Young Archies Awards

Elise Archer, Minister for the Arts

Minister for the Arts, Elise Archer, has praised the winners of the 2023 Young Archies Awards at this year’s portrait competition and exhibition opening.

This annual event is based on the famous Archibald Prize and is open to all students in Tasmanian Government schools and colleges from kindergarten to Year 12.

“I congratulate all students on their work. It is impressive to see such a high quality of talent and creativity on display, from all age groups across our State,” Minister Archer said.

“The Awards are an opportunity to promote and celebrate personal connections that make life colourful.

“Submitted artwork in the form of drawings, paintings or collage must capture someone the artist knows personally – whether it is a family member, a friend, teacher, or someone they look up to in the community.

“This year a total of 511 entries were received from 56 schools across Tasmania which is a terrific effort, and I wish to thank all the teachers in our government schools who encouraged their students to participate – as that is what these Awards are all about.”

All entries in this year’s awards will be on display each day at the UTAS School of Creative Arts and Media in Hunter Street, Hobart, until 17 September, as well as in a virtual gallery from 4 September.

In addition to the full Hobart exhibition and the online virtual exhibition, a touring display of the 2023 Young Archies Awards recipients will be shown around the State.
