TasCOSS Governance Training for Not-For-Profit-Directors

Nic Street,Minister for Community Services and Development

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is collaborating with TasCOSS and the community services industry to make sure that Tasmanians have access to the services they need, when they need them.

Our strong working partnership with TasCOSS and the industry will continue through $3.3 million over three years to implement our Community Services Industry Plan 2021-2031 (Industry Plan), to assist with workforce priorities and to meet the industry projections of an additional 4,000 jobs by 2024.

The Plan’s first implementation tranche includes $50,000 a year for three years to launch a scholarship fund to strengthen governance and build a solid foundation for the board and organisation through a greater awareness of not-for-profit directors’ fundamental duties for community sector organisations.

Through this funding, TasCOSS and the Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drugs Council (ATDC) have joined with the Australian Institute of Company Directors to deliver two rounds of the Governance Foundations for Not-for Profit Directors course.

Positions in the heavily subsidised training opportunity were highly sought after, with 50 applications received from a wide range of sectors within the industry, and brings the total number of scholarships issued from our commitment to 20.

Collaboration between the industry and government is critical in ensuring the industry remains resilient, and these scholarships are an excellent example of how government and the industry can take a partnership approach to build inclusive and resilient communities for all Tasmanians.

The Tasmanian community sector makes a significant contribution to the Tasmanian economy and the wellbeing of Tasmanians, and we will continue to secure Tasmania’s future by building stronger, resilient communities, and a stronger Tasmania.
