Tasmania making waves across ditch

Madeleine Ogilvie, Minister for Advanced Manufacturing and Defence Industries

The Royal New Zealand Navy has today launched its cutting-edge fleet of Tasmanian produced Sentinel 1250 Littoral Manoeuvre Craft.

Designed and manufactured by Tasmanian powerhouse Sentinel Boats, these LMC have received glowing commendations for their high performance and vast capabilities.

Minister for Advanced Manufacturing and Defence Industries, Madeleine Ogilvie, said that Sentinel Boats represents the best of what Tasmania has to offer.

“Tasmania is only just beginning to scratch the surface of the potential our advanced manufacturing and defence industries have,” Minister Ogilvie said.

“Companies, like Sentinel Boats, are flying the Tasmanian flag incredibly high on the international stage and are demonstrating the sheer talent that we have.

“The Littoral Manoeuvre Craft delivered to the Royal New Zealand Navy have been met with stellar reviews and are recognised as a real asset to their defence capabilities.

“Sentinel Boats are undertaking important work that is further entrenching Tasmania as the place for domestic and international players to seek out world-class defence assets and partnerships.

“This success proves that the Tasmanian Government’s strategic approach to supporting our defence industries and advanced manufacturing sector is working.”

Two of the three boats have been delivered, with the third prior to its delivery, on display at the Indo Pacific 2023 International Maritime Exposition in Sydney in November.
