Tasmania ready for T20 World Cup 2022

Jane Howlett,Minister for Sport and Recreation

In yet another sporting coup for Tasmania, Hobart has been confirmed as a host city for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup scheduled for October and November 2022, when the newly crowned World Cup champions Australia will defend the title on home soil. Australia was originally scheduled to host the event in 2020 before it was postponed due to COVID-19.

The T20 World Cup provides yet another opportunity to enhance Tasmania’s international profile and reputation with games to be broadcast to a global audience. The matches will once again showcase our ability to host elite sporting events.

This timely announcement comes just days after Australia became ICC men’s T20 World Cup champions, defeating New Zealand in the final match. Australia now holds both T20 world titles after our women cricketers also won the woman’s tournament in March 2020.

In what will be one of the biggest global sporting events held in Australia in 2022, the world’s best cricketers from 16 international teams will compete in cricket’s most exciting, and fastest-growing format.

The Tasmanian Government is committed to developing and supporting opportunities for all Tasmanians to participate in sport, and we know that local Tasmanian businesses will reap the rewards of games being hosted in the State.

Further fixture details for the event will be released in the new year, and fans can register now to get priority access to tickets and the latest event information by going to https://ticketsaus2022.t20worldcup.com/content/wt20/home.aspx
