Tasmania supports pregnancy alcohol warning labels

Jeremy Rockliff,Minister for Mental Health and Wellbeing

Tasmania has today voted to support the introduction of a mandatory red, white and black pregnancy warning label on all alcoholic beverages at the Australia and New Zealand Ministerial Forum on Food Regulation.

The majority of Australian States and Territories, and New Zealand approved the pregnancy warning label which will be clearly displayed on all alcoholic beverage containers sold within Australia and New Zealand.

As the Minister for Mental Health and Wellbeing, Education and Disability Services and Community Development, I am very well aware of the impact of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) on the wellbeing of children and their educational outcomes.

Which is why the Forum made the right decision today.

This means Australia now joins 28 other nations around the world with mandatory pregnancy labelling including France and the USA.
