An independent report into the Tasmanian Planning Commission was released today.
The review was commissioned by the Government last year and included a comprehensive consultation process, with input from key stakeholders.
Its primary purpose was to ensure that the structure of the Commission, and its functions and powers, were appropriate for it to continue performing its role as an independent decision maker and advisory body within the Tasmanian planning system.
The report confirms the independence of the Commission is valued and should be reinforced, and recommends clearer separation from the planning policy functions of Government.
The Government has welcomed the findings and will now closely consider the detail of the report and its recommendations, noting that the Commission’s membership and functions are established under legislation and any changes will require the approval of Parliament.
