Tasmanian State League trial to enable higher crowd numbers in a safe environment

Jane Howlett,Minister for Sport and Recreation

The Tasmanian Government welcomes a trial this Saturday enabling up to 1250 seated and ticketed patrons to attend the Tasmanian State League clash at North Hobart Oval between the Demons and Northern Bombers.

The health, safety and wellbeing of Tasmanians remains the number one priority as we manage the challenges presented by coronavirus and the outcomes of the trial will be considered closely by Public Health and Worksafe Tasmania before making any determinations as to how and when increased capacity can be adopted at other outdoor stadiums around Tasmania.

The Tasmanian Government appreciates the impact coronavirus has had on club finances, particularly restrictions on crowd numbers. We have been working proactively with state sporting organisations to find practical solutions that allow sports to host greater numbers of spectators in a safe way.

Like all football fans, I welcome the extra fans back to the footy and encourage everyone to be responsible and comply with the distancing rules to make this trial a success.

North Hobart has a storied football history and I hope that the 1250 seats can be filled as a demonstration of how much we have missed going to the footy on a Saturday afternoon.
