Tasmanian tech to train Navy

Tasmanian imagined, designed and manufactured technology is set to help train Royal Australian Navy sailors with an agreement to introduce the technology into the Navy’s training program.

Confirmed by the head of Navy training, Commodore Charles Huxtable, the portable ship bridge simulation system from Tasmania’s Pivot Maritime International will be deployed primarily for mariner skills training at Navy waterfront locations around Australia.

Pivot Maritime International’s Container Simulation System (ContainerSim), the first of its kind globally, is a full-mission, high-fidelity and immersive bridge simulator for defence training and mission readiness.

Pivot Maritime International is Australia’s only manufacturer of maritime simulators for defence, commercial shipping and recreational boating markets and a global market leader in production of portable simulators.

The deployment of Pivot’s ContainerSim will help build sovereign capability for Australian Defence.

Pivot Maritime International’s simulators are also fitted, or being fitted to three of the Australian Navy’s largest vessels, HMAS Adelaide, HMAS Choules, HMAS Stalwart.

Since commencing operations in 1996, Pivot Maritime International has grown from producing desktop portable simulators to its current range of containerised full-mission bridge simulation systems.

Customers of Pivot’s simulator systems include defence, maritime ancillary services providers, military and maritime training institutions, ports and port authorities, maritime regulators, commercial shipowners and port engineering consultants from around the world.

Pivot Maritime International’s ContainerSim was on display at the Indo Pacific 2022 Exposition as part of the Tasmanian delegation taking Tasmanian ingenuity and advanced manufacturing to leading buyers and decision makers from some of the world’s biggest maritime organisations.
