Players and fans across the State are gearing up for a bumper summer of cricket, as the Tasmanian Tigers men’s and women’s sides eye off successful campaigns this season.
Minister for Sport, Nick Duigan, launched the season today.
“Excitement is building ahead of the return of Tasmania’s top three domestic cricket competitions, the Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL), the Sheffield Shield, and the One-Day Cup,” Minister Duigan said.
“Through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, our Government is committed to delivering more access to professional sport, to inspire Tasmanians to get involved in sport and active recreation.
“We want to give Tasmania’s next sporting generation every opportunity to become the next Ricky Ponting, Elyse Villani or Mitch Owen.
“Tasmania, of course, has a long and proud cricket history and the upcoming season is shaping as yet another fantastic year of cricket for our representative teams.
“The Tasmanian Government is a proud supporter of Cricket Tasmania, investing in the important work it does from delivering accessible formats of the game to attract kids into the game through to supporting its elite development programs.
“We look forward to watching the Tigers compete across all three competitions and doing Tasmania proud once again in season 2026-27 as the sides get set to launch seasons.”
The Tasmanian Tigers’ men’s season will begin with a One-day Cup match on 20 September, while Sheffield Shield games commence 8 October.
The WNCL begins 29 September and excitingly, the Big Bash League also returns to the North this January.
