Tax reform for a stronger, more sustainable Victorian economy

Liberal Party Victoria

The Victorian Liberals and Nationals have today committed to reform Victoria’s tax system to deliver a stronger, more sustainable Victorian economy.

In the first major policy announcement made by the Pesutto Liberals and Nationals team, the review will cover all elements of Victoria’s tax system, including stamp duty, land tax, payroll tax, insurance charges and levies.

Under the Andrews Government, Victorians are paying more tax than any other state or territory. Despite this, state debt is set to exceed that of New South Wales, Queensland and Tasmania combined as frontline services, jobs and infrastructure projects all face cuts in Daniel Andrews upcoming horror budget.

The Victorian Liberals and Nationals economic team will lead a series of industry roundtables and stakeholder engagements to shape a future tax package that will form the basis of the Liberals and Nationals 2026 election policy.

Leader of the Opposition, John Pesutto, said an overhaul of Victoria’s ineffective and outdated tax system was critical to delivering a stronger economy for the future.

“This is an important commitment that will mean a fairer and more effective tax system that promotes jobs, opportunity and strengthens our economy,” Mr Pesutto said.

“Our economic team will work in partnership with industry and stakeholders to develop a comprehensive tax plan that puts economic growth front and centre.

“Daniel Andrews might think the home ownership dream is dead but we are committed to giving young Victorians not only hope, but concrete solutions so they can own a piece of our great state.”
