Council is proudly providing support to a range of community groups ahead of Christmas through its Grants and Partnerships Program.
The grants were awarded as part of today’s Ordinary Council meeting and included support for sports clubs, educational opportunities, and community hubs.
Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said Council was proud to support the city’s growth as a sustainable destination that embraces and participates in the arts, sports, events, and recreational activities.
“Each month Council receives a number of important and considered grant applications. These applications show us the commitment our residents have towards building an inclusive, exciting community and supporting the achievement of Council’s key outcomes for Townsville” Cr Greaney said.
“This month we’re proud to be supporting the North Thuringowa Rugby League Football Club’s Pre-Loved Gifts Day, giving gifts to underprivileged children from babies to age 15, as well as QCWA Branch Alligator Creek’s Christmas in the Park and its opening of the QCWA ACES Elliot Springs Community Hub.
“Council is also supporting the University Hawks Football Club with a venue to play its games in 2024, with in-kind support for Riverway Stadium Venue Hire, helping our community to develop and lead healthy and active lifestyles.
“Clontarf’s Townsville L-2-P Driving Program will be supported by a Council grant to support First Nations teenagers in Townsville. The program will provide road safety and risk behaviour education, coordinate access to professional driving lessons, assist participating teenagers in getting their learner permits and driver’s licences, and help participants access employment, training, or further study opportunities once they finish grade 12.”
Cr Greaney said Council had so far committed to just more than $35,000 in fee waivers and more than $266,500 in cash grant amounts this financial year.
“The support Council offers to Townsville community organisations is incredibly valuable for building a city that gets involved in events and recreational activities, which helps create stronger social bonds and give residents an avenue to give back to our community,” she said.
“We offer a range of support, including community grants, community organisation partnerships, economic activation partnerships, and more.”
