The percentage of Tasmanians aged 15 to 19 achieving the Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE) in 2021 has maintained recent growth, reflecting the increasing youth participation in education and training.
TCE Attainment Data from all education sectors last year shows 3556 young Tasmanians achieved a TCE in 2021 – holding the rate of 59 per cent of the potential Year 12 population in 2020 and 2021.
Specifically, almost eight in 10 Year 12 students enrolled in a school achieved their TCE in 2021 after completing two years of secondary education.
The number of students awarded the Tasmanian Certificate of Educational Achievement (TCEA) continued to grow, with 161 students in 2021 compared to 116 students in 2020.
The TCE is the highest level of senior secondary certificate awarded in Tasmania and needs to be achieved to receive an Australian Tertiary Admission Ranking (ATAR) for university entrance.
Congratulations to all students who achieved a senior secondary certificate or qualification in 2021 as the culmination of their senior secondary studies.
It is a significant achievement and I applaud the effort you have put into your learning, particularly recognising the challenges of COVID-19 over the past two years.
I also thank the teachers, principals and education staff across Tasmania who have helped these young people to flourish in challenging times. As well as the parents and carers who have played an extremely important part in supporting their children’s success.
Tasmania’s students have a wide range of senior secondary education options available to them. They can achieve the TCE using a combination of TASC accredited senior secondary courses, VET courses, nationally or interstate assessed languages, recognised formal learning and the University of Tasmania’s University Connections and High Achiever Programs.
