Teenage trio charged over alleged car theft and fire – Bathurst

Three teenagers will face court over an alleged car theft and fire in the state’s central tablelands region this week.

Officers attached to Chifley Police District were called to an address in Clifton Court, Kelso, about 11pm on Wednesday 3 June 2026, following reports a car had been stolen.

Police arrived and were told an unknown group of people had stolen a Nissan SUV, causing damage by crashing into a truck parked nearby, before fleeing in the car.

About 1.40am yesterday (Thursday 4 June 2026), police were called to a paddock near Mcmenamin Place, Kelso, with reports a vehicle was on fire.

Officers arrived and located a Nissan SUV fully alight; Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the fire.

Following inquiries, about 9am the same day (Thursday 4 June 2026), police arrested a 16-year-old boy on Boyd Street, Kelso, after a short foot pursuit.

He was taken to Bathurst Police Station where he was charged with,

·Take and drive conveyance without consent of owner

·Commit s 154A offence and disseminate (post and boast)

·Steal motor vehicle

·Destroy or damage property

·Never licensed person drive vehicle on road – first offence.

He was refused bail and faced a children’s court yesterday (Thursday 4 June 2026), where he was formally refused bail to reappear before a children’s court on Thursday 11 June 2026.

Following extensive inquiries, police arrested two 17-year-old boys about 3pm yesterday (Thursday 4 June 2026) – one at an address in Eglinton, and the other in Kelso.

They were taken to Bathurst Police Station where both were charged with steal motor vehicle.

The two 17-year-olds were refused bail to face a children’s court today (Friday 5 June 2026).
