Teenager charged after pursuit at Oxley, NSW

A teenager has been charged following investigations into a pursuit in the states north earlier this month.

About 3am on Saturday 7 May 2022, police attempted to stop a Toyota Hilux on Bridge Street, Tamworth, due to its manner of driving.

The Toyota failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated, travelling through local streets and the township of Kootingal where it travelled through properties causing damage to fences.

The pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns and the Toyota was later found abandoned near Cockburn Valley Road.

Officers from Oxley Police District seized the Toyota – reportedly stolen from East Tamworth on Friday 5 May 2022 – for forensic examination and commenced an investigation into the matter.

Following inquiries, investigators arrested a 16-year-old boy during a vehicle stop at Calala, just before midday on Friday 27 May 2022.

He was taken to Tamworth Police Station and charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, drive conveyance taken without consent of owner and never licensed person drive vehicle on road – first offence.

The teen was granted conditional bail to face a children’s court on Tuesday 7 June 2022
