Teenager struck by car in Newport

Police are investigating an incident in Newport that has left a teenage girl with serious injuries.

Investigators have been told a 15-year-old girl was walking west along Blackshaws Road around 11.30pm on 20 February.

The Altona Meadows teen, who has autism, laid down on the road and shortly after was struck by a vehicle travelling along Blackshaws Road.

She was transported to hospital and has undergone multiple surgeries for fractured bones.

The vehicle continued and did not stop, the driver possibly unaware they had struck someone.

The car is described as possibly being a small dark-coloured hatchback.

Police have released CCTV of the vehicle driving along Blackshaws Road at the time of the incident.
