Thank you to Kristen Desmond

Jeremy Rockliff,Minister for Education and Training

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Kristen Desmond for her tireless work advocating for support for students with disability, following Kristen’s announcement that her lobby group is finishing up.

Kristen formed the Tasmanian Disability Education Reform in 2012, and has worked closely with the Government and the Department of Education across a number of working groups including the Ministerial Disability Taskforce.

Key recommendations advocated for by Kristen (Ms Desmond) included the new Educational Adjustments funding model for students with disability, which is nation-leading and tailored to the individual student’s needs.

The model supports inclusive practice in schools and aligns support to the educational adjustment teachers make in the classroom to assist students with disability access, participate and engage in quality learning programs.

Kristen’s contribution and insights to this huge body of work was of enormous value.

I know Kristen will keep a very close eye on our Government’s commitment to students with disability to ensure we achieve a truly inclusive education environment, which I welcome.

I wish her all the very best with her future endeavours.
