A new video developed for National Biosecurity Week (24-30 August) is shining a spotlight on Australia’s biosecurity system and the people, partnerships and expertise that help protect the nation every day.
The short video brings together Chief Plant Protection Officer Dr Rosa Crnov, Chief Veterinary Officer Dr Beth Cookson and Acting Chief Environmental Biosecurity Officer Dr Susie Collins. Together, they are the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry’s biosecurity Chiefs – also known as the ‘three Chiefs’ – providing national leadership, expertise and trusted advice across Australia’s biosecurity system.
In a relaxed and conversational discussion, the three Chiefs explore what biosecurity means for them and what makes Australia’s biosecurity system one of the strongest in the world.
The video highlights how biosecurity protects Australia’s plants, animals, environment, economy and way of life, while celebrating the partnerships and people who work together every day to manage biosecurity risks.
The discussion also showcases the importance of biosecurity as a shared responsibility. Drawing on examples such as recent responses to Khapra beetle detections, the Chiefs explain how early reporting and coordinated action help manage biosecurity risks.
National Biosecurity Week provides an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the people who work every day to protect Australia’s environment, agricultural industries, economy and way of life.
