Griffith City Council has been named a finalist in the prestigious Leo Kelly OAM Arts and Culture Awards for Griffith Regional Theatre’s 2025 community production of Mamma Mia!.
The awards recognise councils that demonstrate excellence in the planning and delivery of arts and cultural initiatives.
Griffith Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran said the recognition highlighted the extraordinary talent and community spirit that made the production such a success.
“Being named a finalist is a wonderful achievement for our community,” Mayor Curran said. “Mamma Mia! showcased the incredible creativity that exists across Griffith and demonstrated the important role the arts play in bringing people together.”
Staged at Griffith Regional Theatre from 17 to 27 September 2025, Mamma Mia! featured 10 performances and sold almost 5,000 tickets. The production involved almost 100 local performers, musicians, crew members and volunteers of all ages and backgrounds.
Supported by more than 20 local sponsors, the production delivered significant cultural, social and economic benefits while strengthening community pride and connection.
Griffith is a finalist in Division A, recognising councils serving populations of up to 30,000 people.
The winners of the LGNSW Leo Kelly OAM Arts and Culture Awards will be announced during the Local Government Week Awards Dinner in Sydney on Thursday, 6 August.
