Thief tracked to hiding spot – Northgate, South Australia

A police dog has tracked a thief to his hiding spot under bushes after he allegedly broke into two cars at Northgate overnight.

Just after 3.30am on Friday 20 March, a car owner disturbed a man breaking into her car parked on Davenport Place, stealing her purse and running off.

Eastern Adelaide patrols from Holden Hill were quick to respond searching the area, also locating another victim who had their car broken into in Bremerton Way.

Police dog patrol was called in with PD Arnie working the night shift.

He was able to track the suspect to nearby Balmain Avenue at Northgate where he found the suspect hiding among bushes down the side of a house.

The 30-year-old man from Pooraka was found in possession of the the victim’s wallet, sat/nav and cash.

The Pooraka man was arrested and charged with two counts of illegal interference along with two counts of theft.He has been refused police and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court later today.

Police patrols returned the owner’s property back to them, but were also reminded not to leave valuables in unattended vehicles.
