A third man has been charged over the alleged shooting of another man in the state’s south last month.
About 11.20pm on Wednesday 19 August 2026, officers from Murrumbidgee Police District responded to reports that a 48-year-old man had presented to medical facility on Burns Street, Hillston, with a gunshot wound to the right leg.
The injury was not life threatening.
Officers were informed that the man had been shot in the backyard of a home on Burns Street, before he then walked to the hospital.
Crime scenes were established at both the home in Burns Street and the parked vehicle in Shelly Street.
Police commenced an investigation into the incident, under Strike Force Voral.
Two men have been charged over the alleged shooting and remain before the courts.
Following further enquiries, on Friday 4 September 2026, officers attached to the Tactical Operations Unit – with assistance from Southern Region Tactical Operations Regional Support – arrested a 42-year-old man at a property in Gunbar.
Police – with assistance from Rural Crime Prevention Team, Dog Unit and Wagga Wagga Crash Investigations Unit – subsequently executed a search warrant at the property.
During the search, police allegedly located and seized four firearms, a cross bow, an amount of ammunition, various other weapons and an amount of prohibited drugs.
The 42-year-old man was taken to Griffith Police Station, where he was charged with six offences:
- Discharge firearm etc intend cause grievous bodily harm
- Acquire etc firearm – subject to prohibition order
- Supply unregistered firearm-not pistol/prohibited firearm
- Acquire etc ammunition subject to prohibition order
- Use prohibited weapon contrary to prohibition order
- Fail to comply digital evidence access order direction
He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 5 on Saturday 5 September 2026, where he was formally refused bail to appear in Griffith Local Court on Thursday 10 September 2026.
