More than 200,000 additional South Australians are now eligible for a COVID-19 booster as the Marshall Liberal Government today reduces the interval between the second dose and booster to three months instead of four.
Premier Steven Marshall commended the nearly 60% of eligible South Australians who have already rolled up their sleeve to protect themselves, families and community – and urged the next cohort of South Australians who are now eligible to do the same.
“I am incredibly proud of the roughly 60 per cent of eligible South Australians who have already rolled up to get their booster and our hardworking health workers who have administered more than 370,000 booster doses across the state,” Premier Marshall said.
“This next step in our Omicron response plan increases the number of South Australians eligible for their booster by about 25 per cent and will maximise our booster coverage, arming even more South Australians against the new variant by providing even better protection for the entire community.
“The more South Australians get boosted, the sooner we can look to reduce restrictions and get back to a more normal life.
“We continue to increase the availability of booster vaccines, including expanding the Wayville COVID-19 vaccine clinic which will see the Jubilee Pavilion providing Moderna booster vaccines from tomorrow.
“This is in addition to our first ever booster vaccination hub at Mile End which has boosted thousands of South Australians since it opened last week.”
Chief Public Health Officer, Professor Nicola Spurrier, said increasing the number of South Australians who have received their third dose will substantially reduce case numbers, hospitalisations and deaths.
“We know that the third dose provides a far better level of protection against the Omicron variant so reducing the interval required to get this dose will give people the best protection possible even sooner,” Professor Spurrier said.
“South Australians who have had their second dose three months ago should make an appointment for their booster today.”
