Thousands of Australians had their say on postal services modernisation

Dept of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications

The Albanese Government thanks the more than a thousand Australians who had their say on the postal services they want and need now, and into the future.

As part of the Government’s consultation process, approximately a thousand people and organisations made a submission or provided a short written comment. More than 13,000 individuals and organisations also contributed their views through Australia Post’s independent survey, the results of which will assist Australia Post deliver services that meet the community’s needs and be shared with the Government.

It is clear that Australia Post’s letter and parcel delivery services – and the more than 4,300 post offices nation-wide – play an important role in the lives of many Australians. Postal services support individuals, charities, communities and ensure businesses stay connected and thrive socially and economically.

The consultation has demonstrated that the way many Australians use postal services continues to evolve, and that some changes to postal services need to occur to safeguard Australia Post as a valued national institution. This includes changes to ensure that a high quality and sustainable letters service is maintained, to ensure that all Australians remain connected.

The Government will consider all views in developing a package of reform to modernise postal services. A further announcement will be made later this year on steps that will be taken to support Australia Post remaining a financially sustainable and valuable institution that delivers for all Australians.
