The Morrison Government will put more than 25,000 jobs on the menu nationwide through a virtual jobs fair to connect Australia’s job seekers with in-demand jobs in the tourism and hospitality sectors.
A free online event, the National Tourism and Hospitality Virtual Jobs Fair will feature employers looking to hire, informative workshops from industry professionals and information about training and qualifications.
Minister for Employment, Workforce, Skills, Small and Family Business, the Hon Stuart Robert MP, said a positive outlook for next year’s travellers means restaurants and hotels across Australia have a renewed appetite for hiring.
‘As restrictions ease and the visitor economy comes roaring back, businesses will need to be able to scale-up their operations quickly to meet increased demand,’ Minister Robert said.
‘Connecting job seekers directly with employers at this virtual jobs fair is a win-win – it gets people into work and it gets our economy going.
‘Currently we have more than 130 employers and more than 25,000 jobs on offer at this virtual jobs fair, so go along and you’re guaranteed to have a look in.’
Assistant Minister for Youth and Employment Services, the Hon Luke Howarth MP, said the jobs fair is a great opportunity for job seekers, especially young people looking to start their careers.
‘If you want to hear first-hand from employers about what they are looking for when hiring, network, and get tips on how to make a great application in this sector, this is the place to go,’ Assistant Minister Howarth said.
‘There will also be virtual booths to talk about training – so you can meet an employer, find out the qualifications you need, and enrol with a clear path to your new job, all in just a few minutes.’
Attending the National Tourism and Hospitality Virtual Jobs Fair is free, with sessions running from 1 pm to 5 pm EDT on Wednesday 24 November and Thursday 25 November. Job seekers can register at: dese.gov.au/tourismandhospitalityvjf
This virtual jobs fair is just one way the Morrison Government has moved to support Australia’s hospitality and tourism sectors through the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Government has offered targeted packages, including $70 million for tourism operators on the Gold Coast, in addition to wage subsidy programs like JobKeeper.
The $6.2 million Jobs Fairs program complements other measures the Government has set up to connect employers and job seekers such as the $276 million Local Jobs Program.
