Three boys charged after alleged aggravated break and enter – Bourke

Three boys have been charged following an alleged aggravated break and enter in the state’s west overnight.

About 2.30am (Wednesday 7 October 2026), officers attached to Central North Police District were called to a property on Mertin Street, Bourke, following reports of a break and enter.

Police attended and were told a group had allegedly entered the home before taking several items, including a handbag, wallet and car keys belonging to an SUV.

An occupant of the home – a 57-year-old woman – confronted the group before they allegedly left the scene in the SUV.

The woman was not injured.

A crime scene was established and an investigation into the incident commenced.

Following inquiries, police stopped the car on Marshall Crescent, Cobar, shortly before 6am (Wednesday 7 October 2026), and arrested a 16-year-old boy.

A short time later, officers arrested three more boys – two aged 13 and one aged 15 – on Rankin Street, Cobar.

They were taken to Cobar Police Station where three boys were charged,

– The 16-year-old boy was charged with aggravated break and enter with intent – knowing person there, be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, and dishonestly obtain property by deception. He was refused bail to appear before a children’s court today (Wednesday 7 October 2026).

– The 15-year-old boy was charged with aggravated break and enter with intent – knowing person there, take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, dishonestly obtain property by deception, hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty and breach of bail. He was refused bail to appear before a children’s court today (Wednesday 7 October 2026).

– A 13-year-old boy was charged with enter building/land with intent commit indictable offence, two counts of enter enclosed lands and breach of bail. He was refused bail to appear before a children’s court today (Wednesday 7 October 2026).

The other 13-year-old boy was released pending further inquiries.

Investigations are ongoing.
