Three men charged over alleged involvement in Marrickville shooting – Task Force Magnus

Task Force Magnus detectives have charged three people as part of an investigation into a shooting in Sydney’s Inner West earlier this year under Strike Force Orsino.

About 1.50pm on Friday 7 July 2023, emergency services were called to a business on Marrickville Road in Marrickville after reports two men – aged 20 and 33 – had been shot.

Both men were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to hospital, with one man suffering serious injuries. They have both since been released.

A short time after the shooting, emergency services responded to reports of two burnt-out vehicles – a grey Kia Stinger in Marrickville and a white Triton Ute in Dulwich Hill.

Crime scenes were established at all three locations which were forensically examined by specialist officers.

On Sunday 9 July 2023, police located a third burnt out car – a white Toyota Aurien – in Smithfield.

Officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command commenced initial inquiries before State Crime Command’s Task Force Magnus and Criminal Groups Squad took carriage of the investigation under Strike Force Orsino.

As part of an appeal for public assistance, police released CCTV of two men seen leaving the Toyota Aurien in Smithfield and getting into a white Toyota Yaris.

Following further inquiries, about 2.40pm on Tuesday 21 November, strike force detectives arrested a 28-year-old man at a Correctional Centre in Grafton, where he was charged with participate in criminal group.

He was refused bail and appeared before Newtown Local Court yesterday (Wednesday 22 November 2023), where police alleged the man was involved in stealing a car used in the getaway from the shooting.

About 10.30am yesterday, strike force detectives arrested two men – aged 26 and 27 – at Kempsey Police Station.

Both men were charged with shoot at with intent to murder and participate in a criminal group.

They were remanded in custody and appeared before Kempsey Local Court yesterday where they were formally refused bail to reappear at Burwood Local Court on Wednesday 17 January 2023.

Police will allege in court the two men were involved in the staging and burning of the vehicles used in the shooting.

Investigations continue.
