There will be three opportunities to ‘talk solar’ with the Mallee Sun Solar Bulk Buy team at information sessions in Robinvale and Swan Hill on 19 and 20 November.
Farmers and householders can find out about grants for going solar that are available from the State Government, as well as what’s on offer from the Mallee Sun Solar Bulk Buy – a Council-supported program.
For farmers, Agriculture Victoria is offering grants of up to $250,000 to purchase equipment that improves energy efficiency and cuts power bills. To be eligible, farmers must be a primary producer based in Victoria with an annual combined power bill of at least $8,000.
For households, Solar Victoria is offering rebates worth up to $2,225 for solar panels installations, as well as an interest-free loan of the same amount as the rebate. The eligibility criteria are broad, but include that the property has to be your primary residence, worth no more than $3 million and that your joint household income must be $180,000 or less.
Mallee Sun Solar Bulk Buy is a partnership between Swan Hill Rural City Council and Central Victorian Greenhouse Alliance which aims to make it easier and more affordable for householders, farmers and businesses to go solar and add batteries.
Program organiser Jo Kaptein said the information meetings planned for 19 and 20 November were a great way to learn about solar in general, and how you can get a system for your home or business.
“We will be ready to explain what rebates and grants are available for solar and batteries – as well as the types of solar power and battery storage systems available through the bulk buy,” she said.
Information meetings will be held:
• Robinvale, for householders – Tuesday, 19 November from 6.30pm-8pm at Robinvale Golf Club.
• Robinvale, for farmers – free breakfast, Wednesday, 20 November from 7.30am-8.30am at Robinvale Golf Club.
• Swan Hill, for householders – Wednesday, 20 November from 6.30pm-8pm at Swan Hill Region Information Centre.
