Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2022 released

Monash University

Monash University has placed equal 42nd globally in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2022, scoring 92.9 out of 100.

The THE Impact Rankings are the only global performance tables that assess universities against the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), across the broad areas of research, stewardship, outreach and teaching.

This year, 1,406 universities were assessed in the rankings – an increase of almost 300 universities compared to 2021.

Pleasingly, Monash’s rank increased in three of the SDGs: Reducing Inequalities (=36th up from 46th), Partnerships for the Goals (=38th up from 43rd), and Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (=79th up from 101-200).

The best-ranked SDGs were Sustainable Cities and Communities (=15th), Decent Work and Economic Growth (17th), and Climate Action (25th).

Monash University President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Margaret Gardner AC said the THE Impact Rankings provided universities with a good indication of how their education and research measure against the United Nations SDGs, and the areas in which they can improve.

“We are pleased to have increased our global position in three SDGs, while also placing in the top 10 in Australia,” Professor Gardner said.

“These rankings results show that we remain on track, but also serve as a reminder that we still have much work to do.

“Monash’s Strategic Plan, Impact 2030, sets our direction for the next decade, including our approach to tackling global challenges, while also integrating the objectives of the United Nations SDGs.”

Earlier this month, Monash University was ranked number one globally in the 2022 QS World University Rankings by Subject for Pharmacy and Pharmacology.
