Toorak Village back to its best

Work to return the Toorak Village streetscape to its best will begin from mid-April, following extensive community consultation to develop and refine the design.

Toorak Village is one of Stonnington’s most popular shopping strips, instantly recognisable by its iconic heritage facades and high-end retail and dining offerings. Over the years, the pedestrian areas along Toorak Road have become worn and past their best from regular repairs needed to keep them safe.

This is all about to change.

From April, we’ll completely rebuild the pedestrian areas on both sides of Toorak Road, between Wallace Avenue and Grange Road, with a brass-trimmed concrete pavement, granite cobblestone and bluestone kerbs, new complementary street furniture, restored heritage lamp posts, and upgraded lighting. We’ll also replace the existing street trees with more and consistent trees species along the street front.

The works will be completed in stages, simultaneously on both sides of Toorak Road. Subject to weather and any unexpected site conditions, we expect the works to be fully complete by the end of the year – just in time for the busy holiday shopping season.

While we’re working, all Toorak Village businesses will be too – so don’t let the sight of site fencing put you off. Access to all shops will be retained as much as possible throughout the build, and we encourage you to keep shopping in the village and supporting the local traders.
