Toowoomba LDMG moves to stand-up as QFES issues leave immediately warning for Wutul and East Cooyar bushfire

Toowoomba Regional Council’s Local Disaster Management Group has moved to stand-up as QFES issues a leave immediately warning for a bushfire in the Wutul and East Cooyar area.

Toowoomba Region Mayor Geoff McDonald said the Local Disaster Management group was at stand up and residents were being asked to evacuate to family and friends’ homes in the first instance.

“Properties between New England Highway and East Cooyar Road, including Fitzgerald Road, Dukes Road, Saads Road and Garskes Road are in the warning area.

“The fire is expected to impact Easy Cooyar Road and residents are being asked to enact their bushfire survival plan and leave immediately. QFES are telling residents to avoid driving on Dukes Road and drive with caution on the New England Highway.

“Go to a place away from the emergency area, with family and friends in the first instance. If residents do not have another option, they are to head north towards Yarraman and call TRC on 131 872 to register. They will then be directed to where the temporary accommodation is arranged,” Mayor McDonald said.
