An introductory in-person training on the new Prescribed List (PL) products is occurring on 8 November for sponsors to gain critical insights for PL applications.
With the introduction of new processes and the release of the new PL (formerly the Prostheses List) Guide, the MTAA is conducting a training session with the Department of Health and Aged Care for sponsors of Prescribed List products.
The unique training opportunity will provide an introduction to the new PL Guide, technical requirements for new and amended applications, and evidence levels for various types of applications, with the aim of educating sponsors on how to successfully meet the requirements for new and amendment applications.
AusBiotech is promoting the paid-for training opportunity with its member base, after ongoing conversations with the Department regarding the Prostheses List Advisory Committee (PLAC), recently replaced by the Medical Devices and Human Tissue Advisory Committee (MDHTAC), and maintaining industry representation.
The training is an opportunity for sponsors to gain critical insights on the new PL Guide and technical requirements for applications in a forum with the Department.
The PL Guide, released by the Department in September, assists applicants to prepare an application to list a product on the Prescribed List of Benefits for Medical Devices and Human Tissue Products (the PL), or to amend an existing billing code.
The PL sets out the medical devices and human tissue products that private health insurers must pay benefits for to the patients who have appropriate insurance policies, with more than 11,000 items listed.
Presenters include: Emeritus Professor Terry Campbell AM, Chair of the Medical Device and Human Tissue Advisory Committee and Ms Irina Tsyganova, Director of the Prescribed List Administration Section. Former industry representatives on Clinical Advisory Groups (CAGs) will also join for additional insights.
The training session will also include a Q&A with the Department of Health and Aged Care.
