TRC investigating designs for Escarpment Mountain Bike Trails project  (2)

Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) is investigating new design options for the Escarpment Mountain Bike Trails project.

TRC Parks and Recreation Services portfolio leader Cr Tim McMahon said extra planning was needed to resolve complex design components.

“Work is progressing to refine several key elements of the project, such as resolving the final trail placement,” Cr McMahon said.

“Work is ongoing regarding the best way to link the trails proposed for Jubilee Park with a trail node at the bottom of the escarpment in Lockyer Valley Regional Council’s area.

“Additional design work is needed to ensure appropriate access for emergency services, particularly in areas outside Jubilee Park.

“Project staff are considering a staged approach that will start with less complicated design elements, allowing time for more complex design and safety elements to be considered.

“Given recent developments, it is unlikely there will be a start on construction in this financial year.

“In line with a past Council decision, Redwood Park is outside the project footprint, due to its widely regarded environmental and cultural heritage values.

“We are building a top-class mountain bike precinct and I look forward to seeing this project progressing.

“Our escarpment mountain bike trails are a popular recreation and outdoor sporting drawcard, and with some appropriate design updates, I’m confident we can deliver an even more attractive experience for social and competitive riders.”

Cr McMahon said Council had advised key stakeholders, including the Toowoomba Mountain Bike Club, about the latest decision.
