Toowoomba Region Mayor Geoff McDonald has today welcomed news that the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) would soon provide an improved radar service to residents of the region.
In correspondence received recently, BOM has advised a new weather radar is currently under construction near Crows Nest.
“In today’s world where disaster preparedness is paramount, our residents need the tools and resources to make informed choices when weather warnings are issued and this additional weather radar service that the BOM will provide is certainly welcome news.
“BOM has advised that a new weather radar is currently under construction near Crows Nest and is scheduled for completion by mid-2024.
“They further advise that the new radar will add coverage to current radar gaps to the west and south-west of Toowoomba. This includes the northern parts of the Moonie and Border rivers catchments, the upper Condamine River catchment, and the mining and resources precinct around Chinchilla,” Mayor McDonald said.
Once complete, the Toowoomba region will have access to improved weather information including real-time rainfall and wind conditions across larger areas.
“The community, emergency services and local industry, including agriculture and tourism, will benefit from the new weather radar as it will help to make more-informed decisions,” Mayor McDonald said.
