Trial of police officer based at Cradle Mountain

Visitors to Cradle Mountain will see an increased police presence with a three month trial to start next week.

Cradle Mountain is one of Tasmania’s best known tourist icons attracting over 300,000 visitor each year. As visitation has increased, so too has the number of incidents that require a police response.

The officer who will be located within the newly built Cradle Mountain gateway precinct will undertake general duties, including but not limited to public safety, crime, traffic policing and emergency management.

“This is an excellent opportunity for police to provide an increased presence at one of Tasmania’s iconic tourist destinations and only made possible through the continued support and collaboration of Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Services,” said Acting Inspector Anthea Maingay.

The trial will run from 9 January 2020 to 26 April 2020.
