The Longest Day is a golf challenge that asks participants to take on 36, 54 or 72 holes of golf in one day, while raising funds for cancer research. You can take on the challenge with friends, family, colleagues or your golf club, and choose the level that suits you.

Every round helps support Cancer Council’s work in cancer research, helping researchers find better ways to prevent, detect and treat cancer.

For Mark, The Longest Day is much more than a golf challenge.

After losing his nephew to leukaemia, Mark decided to take on The Longest Day in 2023.

With the support of sponsors, including SeaLink and the Rottnest Island Golf Club, Mark’s first event was a great success. Later that year, his brother passed away from gallbladder cancer, bringing an even deeper personal meaning to Mark’s fundraising efforts.

The 2nd year I was playing for both my nephew, and my brother.

For the past four years, Mark has continued to grow his Longest Day event into an incredible three-day experience on Rottnest Island.

Multiple teams take on the 72-hole challenge before coming together for a fun-filled Ambrose day, bringing participants, family and friends together for plenty of laughter, support and connection.

And their fundraising efforts have gone from strength to strength.

After raising $38,569 in their first year, Mark and his team raised an incredible $129,545 in 2025, tripling their fundraising target and finishing as the number one fundraising golf club nationally.

For Mark, the event is about more than the number of holes played or dollars raised.

Although my connection was extremely difficult for me, the event on Rottnest has given so many people a chance to play for their connection to the cause.

Whether you’re playing in memory of someone you love, supporting someone going through cancer, or simply looking for a challenge that makes a difference, The Longest Day gives you the chance to turn a day on the golf course into support for cancer research.

Get your team together, choose your challenge and register for The Longest Day 2026.
